BEING WITH DYING by Joan Halifax

by: Joan Halifax

This is a new edition of a book that was first published in 2008. It now includes a foreword by Frank Ostaseski, who in recent years has become a pioneer in hospice care from a Buddhist point of view. Joan Halifax is a Zen priest and an anthropologist who has served on many university faculties in the States, and who in the last thirty years has also worked with dying people. This book is full of guidance and advice on how to be present and help someone who is dying. It’s not academic but is full of stories and accounts that will teach and reassure us. Dying well is one of life’s greatest challenges and very few of us have had any lessons in it. This very readable book I think could be one of the best things to have by our sides when we face death – our own or someone else’s.
