JAPANESE ART OF LIVING SEASONALLY by Natalie Leon

by: Natalie Leon

Many of us admire the Japanese for their patient and elegant approach to life and this title shows us how they do it and offers plenty of material which might help us do the same. It’s a very attractive hardback which also includes many line drawings. The Japanese awareness of the seasons is known as Kisetsukan and this illuminates all its manifestations, including for example Shun (eating what is fresh and bountiful), Mottainai (zero-waste living) and Momijigari (the ritual of leaf hunting). The book is like an almanac which you can dip into anywhere. All the principles described don’t of course just relate to living in Japan or being “more Japanese”; they are just good principles for living. There are also many anecdotes, folktales, recipes and activities – it’s great for getting your own life into order or as a tasteful gift for someone else.
