MAURICE NICOLL: FORGOTTEN TEACHER OF THE FOURTH WAY by Gary Lachman

by: Gary Lachman

This big, juicy hardback biography of a pivotal figure in the esoteric history of the first half of the 20th century is I admit a bit different for Cygnus but I just found it really interesting and it includes lots of key teachers, especially Gurdjieff, Ouspensky and Jung. Gary Lachman also really knows his way around this period in history and has himself already written biographies of these three specialists in the soul and the mind. It’s serious but it’s very readable and it’s fascinating to read the story of someone who was close to both Jung and Gurdjieff. In 1922 Nicoll, who was born in Scotland, abandoned his highly successful psychiatry practice in Harley Street and moved to France with his family to be close to the celebrated Russian/Armenian mystic. Here we learn more about his teachings and the way of soul development.
