Again this is a bit different but inspiring all the same. Jamie Reid – who died last year – was an artist with a rebellious, community and punk ethos, but his great-uncle was a prominent Druid and Jamie himself was greatly influenced by the pagan cycle of the year. So he was involved in a lot of design for the Sex Pistols back in the seventies but this unconventional streak also extended into a powerful grassroots spirituality. The curator and taste-maker Stephen Ellcock – whose previous titles we have featured in Cygnus – has arranged his works around the eight primary pagan festivals to reflect the changing year. It’s an inspiration to live life closer to nature and all the growing things. The book also involves a conversation around Jamie’s life and art plus reflections by former Chief Druid Philip Carr-Gomm on the subtler aspects of the ancient festivals.
