This is a book for these demanding times. Cuong Lu is a Buddhist teacher who was ordained by Thich Nhat Hanh. He fled from his native Vietnam in 1975 and while he was on the deck of a ship waiting to leave he saw a man shot dead in front of him by a stray bullet. He knows about pain and suffering and his advice, contained in several short chapters, is poetic and pithy, like all good Buddhist writing. He shows us a path to peace and ways in which we can all feel our commonality rather than our divisions. He is now married and has three children and his guidance is based on everyday life and not just life in the monastery. The book is a small hardback and would make a great gift. There’s also a wonderful quote on the cover by bestselling author Mo Gawdat.
