Derek Gow is a farmer and conservationist who was born in Dundee. He is an indefatigable fighter for animals and especially the native mammals of this island. And make no mistake beavers used to be native and are tremendously beneficial to the environment. He is currently working on reintroducing the wildcat. It’s a fun account, full of riotous stories of the author against the establishment. It’s inspiring and encouraging, which is great to read. Since the 1990s he has imported, quarantined and assisted the reestablishment of beavers in waterways across England and Scotland. And it’s an easy read too. It includes a foreword by Isabella Tree who wrote Wilding.
