Sophrology is a set of exercises based on yoga that can be used for relaxation, resilience and enhanced self-esteem. It is most popular in France and Switzerland and in those countries it has been used to train Olympic athletes, as well as to help teachers and pupils in schools and to ameliorate symptoms for cancer patients. The exercises involve breathwork, active imagination and scanning the body. This is one of the first mainstream books on the subject and it is beautifully laid out in colour and with many illustrations and diagrams. The exercises are easy to learn and can be carried out quickly and with minimal inconvenience. The author has a practitioner diploma in sophrology, as well as being the current Chief of the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids.
