I often suspect that Taoism and its associated arts have the most to offer when it comes to living a holistically spiritual and healthy life. The philosophy, literature and body therapies all unite to make us better, more integrated human beings, and while you can go very deep in all of them, they are also relatively easy to make a start on. Here a Taoist priest offers a new translation of a 6th century text called the Bai Yao Lu, which was originally created as a practical guide to what enlightened behaviour looks like. His commentaries show us how we can be guided by these Hundred Remedies in daily life now and how practically we can “go with the flow”. Some of the suggestions include Being Reverent, Respectful, Humble and Unassuming, Enjoying Giving Food and Drink to Others, and Listening to Advice and Transforming Oneself. Again, these are simple on the surface, but then Gregory gives us further direction on making these active spiritual practices.
