One of the main traits of mysticism is often considered to be that it deals with approaching that which is incomprehensible and beyond language. Paradoxically though, some of the greatest mystics have also being some of the greatest poets, as they have tried their best to express something which essentially transcends words altogether. This is a wonderful collection of mystical poetry ranging from antiquity to modern authors, where we get a deep insight into how various sages have chosen to depict their transcendental experiences. Included are the words of great mystics like Rumi, Blake and Kabir, as well as excerpts from the Gnostic Gospels and ancient Eastern philosophy. Although this anthology is truly vast in scope, it is really inspiring to see how there is so many similarities to be found in the various texts and their content.
