This book is published by Shambhala, and like most of their books it’s serious and wise. Tracy Cochran is the editorial director at Parabola, and the essays here are in the style of that wonderful magazine, mostly inspired by Buddhism, the Gurdjieff work and her experience as a meditation teacher. Chapters include The Night I Died, My True Home is Brooklyn and Saturday in New York with Gitanjali. The essays are all autobiographical, and are full of anecdote and observation, but they still deliver a message. It’s for more mature readers who like good writing and who don’t want to work too hard to follow the text. There’s even a rare endorsement from film director Martin Scorsese, who calls this “a remarkable book”.
