This great book was first published in 2018 as Mindfulness and Sleep, and it’s a great introduction to improving your sleep using various evidence-based techniques that rely on the calm and resilience that you can generate yourself. Practices include Body Scan, Letting Go Into the Out-Breath and Outlining the Body, and they are clearly explained and all easy to practise. If you want to explore any of the techniques further, there’s a Resources section in the back. One of the best things about mindfulness in this context is that it teaches you acceptance so, if you sleep poorly, you are less likely to get anxious about it and at least then that anxiety won’t make things worse. It’s a charming pocket-sized hardback with simple colour illustrations and, because it’s published by Cico, it’s excellent value at £7.99.
