WILD WOOL SHEPHERDESS by Elizabeth Kneafsey

by: Elizabeth Kneafsey

Elizabeth is a shepherdess in northern England and her book tells us how she found herself doing such an unusual job. It’s a book in the Sharon Blackie tradition, which talks a lot about women’s consciousness and is directed towards women, which is not to say there aren’t aspects that would appeal to men. It’s infused with the spirit of lonely places and inspired by wild and untamed animals. From reading about how she found her place in the world, we too can be inspired by life on the edge of civilization. It’s poetic in the tradition of Women Who Run With the Wolves. The text is full of exercises that encourage us that we are able to live in the wild and off grid, including how to make a fire, but these things are metaphors too, for taking charge.
