Overwhelmed: Work Love and Play When No-One Has the Time – Time pressure and stress is re-sculpting our brains and shaping our workplaces, our relationships and squeezing the space that the Greeks said was the point of living a Good Life: that elusive moment of peace called leisure. This is a book about time pressure and modern life. It helps you take stock as your life flies past you, helping you to understanding the historical and cultural roots of the overwhelm.
In the author’s attempt to juggle work and family life, Brigid Schulte juggled raising children and working long into the night after her children were in bed. Realising she had become someone who constantly burst in late, trailing shoes and schoolbooks and biscuit crumbs, she began to question, like so many of us, whether it is possible to do and be what you want to be, have a family and still have time to breathe and have a life. When Brigid met an eminent sociologist she learnt the importance of enjoying thirty hours of leisure each week. What followed was a trip down the rabbit hole of busyness, which resulted in her writing about the subject.
